A beautiful octagonal English bow by William Watson. Watson made bows for the Hill & Sons company (he was the last maker to apprentice under William Retford) before leaving the company and making bows under his own name. This superb example was made in 1974 as can be seen in the photo of the engraved gold tip gracing the boldly cut head. The flawless tortoise shell frog is mounted in engraved gold with a delicate crown inlaid on each side. The button is divided tortoise and figured gold. With its stellar craftsmanship and the finest materials, not to mention excellent playing qualities, this bow is worthy of being a piece for collector and/or player. Included with the bow is a commercial ebony frog which may be used to save the tortoise frog from the rigors of playing.
